I was born this way!

Nooooooooo
no
“Born this way” is not a viable defense against something as irrational and hateful as heterosexism. It’s just not.
I’m not suggesting that most people aren’t born the way the are. What I’m suggesting is it doesn’t fucking matter. Whether you’ve known your orientation since preschool, or only after 30 years of marriage, you are valid and so is your sexual identity. Queer people need to stop policing each other!!
And honestly, if the best defense from bigotry we can come up with is “I can’t help being this way, it was forced upon me at birth!”… FUCK THAT. The world is a fucked up, scary place for queers, but there’s also joy in being who you are. Lots and lots of queer people, if you asked them, wouldn’t want to be any other way.
I don’t need to justify my identity to hateful fuckheads, and neither do you. It doesn’t matter how you got here. Because there is  nothing wrong with who you are.

CO-SIGNED. Everything about this rant is perfect.

Co-signed. The only person I need to justify myself to, ever, is me.

I just wish I knew why any of us had to justify anything to anyone ever when it comes to who we invite into our hearts and our beds. There isn’t enough love in the world as it is without restricting it to the heteronormative binary. Besides, at the end of the day, is it really anyone’s business? Does one person’s love for another hurt anything but the propriety of narrow-minded bigots?
I don’t care why people love who they love. I just care that they treat the people they love with respect, and that people respect the choices of other people that do not have any particular bearing on the lives of said other people. And frankly? My neighbour’s sex life only matters to me because they are rather enthusiastic about it and I have to listen to the headboard bang against our shared wall, among other things. That’s less ‘who’s s/he shagging?’ and more ‘why must I be allergic to earplugs?’
If gay sex is not your bag, that’s fine. No one is asking you to have any. Gay marriage, ditto - no one is going to make you marry anyone you don’t want. But it should go both ways; no one should ever dictate, ever, who someone can or cannot marry, so long as both parties are human, of age and consenting.
And as to religious reasoning? I refuse to believe that God - any God - is an omniscient voyeuristic bigot. Deity’s supposed to be better than us; love and acceptance and seeing into the hearts and minds of mankind. Which do you think Deity prefers: true love between two of Deity’s children? Or a bunch of hateful bigots perverting Deity’s message of love to fit their own personal prejudices?
